Why Your Towels Feel Scratchy (And How to Make Them Soft Again)
Ever pulled a towel out of the dryer expecting fluffiness, only to be met with rough, scratchy fabric? Over time, towels lose their softness due to detergent buildup, hard water, and improper drying. Here’s how to get them back to that luxurious, hotel-like softness!
Why Do Towels Get Rough?
🔹 Detergent & Fabric Softener Buildup – Too much detergent or fabric softener coats the fibers, making them stiff.
🔹 Hard Water Minerals – If you have hard water, minerals can deposit in the fabric, reducing absorbency.
🔹 Over-Drying in High Heat – High heat damages the towel fibers, causing them to feel rough.
How to Make Towels Soft Again
✔️ Wash with Vinegar & Baking Soda – Run a wash cycle with 1 cup of white vinegar instead of detergent, followed by a second wash with ½ cup of baking soda. This removes buildup and restores softness.
✔️ Use Less Detergent – Only use half the recommended amount to prevent residue.
✔️ Skip Fabric Softener – It reduces absorbency and creates a waxy coating. Instead, use wool dryer balls to fluff up towels.
✔️ Dry on Low Heat & Shake Out – High heat damages fibers. Always shake out towels before putting them in the dryer to prevent stiffness.
